This is also a topic close to my heart. I am a single parent of 15 1/2 year old boy/girl twins and have been single parenting my twins since they were 5 months old. It is a constant struggle without a male influence in the home and they do take advantage of that fact. You have to set rules and boundries and "STICK" to them and be "CONSISTENT." If you are not then you not only lost the battle but you lose the WAR! When your children become teenagers that is a critical situation especially with all they face in today's world! They always need to know who is boss whether you are a single mom or a single dad. When they become teenagers, the time of being their buddy, sorry to say, comes to the point of more "tough love" more than being the buddy in their life and that, as I am sure you have found out hte hard way, is harder than you than it ultimately is on them. So parents, get that tough layer of skin and just love them and be consistent but always, always, always let them know you love them and that you only want what is best for them and are trying to prepare them for their future and mold them into the kind of adults they themselves can be proud of.
